Mid-Autumn Festival: How to Enjoy Mooncakes Sensibly.

LifeCare Diagnostic

September 30, 2020

Traditionally round and baked, today we get to enjoy a variety of novelty mooncakes, such as snow skin mooncake, jelly mooncake or ice-cream moon cake.

A traditional full-sized plain mooncake varies from 700-900kcal. The higher the calories, the more fillings (egg yolks, or novel filling such as custard) added. Did you know that the calories of one whole plain mooncake (lotus seed paste) are equivalent to 3 bowls of rice?

Keep in Check for the Mooncake Festival

  1. Portion size control.
There are various choices of mooncake to consider, always keep in mind that moderation is key. Cut into a few slices to enjoy it.
  2. Which one to choose? Check for the nutrition fact labels.
Compare 100g among products. Choose the one with lower calories, carbohydrates, and fat.
  3. Go for the nutrition claimed with “low-sugar” or “no-sugar”.
  4. Check for ingredients list.
The listing is in descending order. Consider the product with higher fiber content such as nuts and seeds or using wholemeal flour.
  5. Look for an expiry date. The longer the shelf life it is, the more trans-fat or preservative it has, which is to be avoided.

Calories Checker

Keep in mind that mooncake is high in calories and fat, thus, always share it with your friends, family members and colleagues!

Add pomelo to improve digestion
Pomelo is known as Chinese Grapefruit. It is considered as one of the festive foods of the mid-autumn festival. It has a unique blend of sweet and sour flavour that is not found in any citrus fruit. By adding pomelo in this festival, it can boost up the diet quality and support digestive health.

Enjoy your mooncakes in moderation and Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
