This test is not recommended for the following individuals:

  • Ongoing active cancer treatment
  • Recent major cancer surgery (1 – 3 months)
  • Recent blood transfusion (3 – 6 months)
  • During Pregnancy

All cells in the body contain DNA. As part of their natural life cycle, cells shed fragments of DNA into the bloodstream.

  • ctDNA (Circulating Tumour DNA): A specific type of cell-free DNA released by tumour cells. Unlike cfDNA, ctDNA is released actively and carries distinct features linked to cancer.

The Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED ctDNA) Test uses this principle to detect tumour-specific DNA fragments in the blood. It allows for early cancer detection in individuals without symptoms and helps monitor tumour activity in patients with known cancers.

  1. A 10mL blood sample will be collected.
  2. The test identifies mutations in circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) that are specific to certain types of cancer. By analysing these mutation patterns, the test can help predict the likely origin of the cancer in the body.
  3. Results will be available within 14 working days.
  4. A consultation with a doctor will be provided to review and explain your results.
  1. Negative (No ctDNA Detected):
No ctDNA associated to the cancer cells was found in your blood at the time of testing.
Note: This result reflects your condition only at the time of sample collection and does not guarantee you are cancer-free in the future. Continue with your routine health screenings and consult your doctor if any symptoms arise.
  2. Positive (ctDNA Detected):
Cancer-related ctDNA was detected in your blood.
The report may suggest potential locations in the body where cancer might be developing.
This is a screening tool—not a diagnosis. Your doctor may recommend further imaging and referral to a specialist for confirmation.

The Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED ctDNA) Test does not detect all types of cancer—particularly those that may not release detectable DNA into the bloodstream. Additionally, it cannot predict the risk of developing cancer in the future.

As with any screening test, results may include false positives or false negatives:

  • A false negative may occur if the tumour is very small or not shedding enough ctDNA at the time of testing.
  • A false positive may occur due to other non-cancer-related DNA alterations in the blood.

If follow-up diagnostic tests do not confirm cancer, this could mean either:

  • There is no cancer present, or
  • The cancer is present but was not detected due to current limitations in test sensitivity.

It’s also important to note that not all detected cancer-related DNA changes confirm the presence of cancer. Clinical evaluation and further diagnostic testing are necessary for accurate interpretation.

Finally, the test only screens for specific types of cancer included within its detection panel. Some genetic alterations may go undetected if they fall outside the scope of this test or due to technical limitations in analysis.
