Note:
- Prior to a colonoscopy, it is important to properly prepare by emptying your colon. Any remaining residue in the colon can hinder a clear view of the colon and rectum during the examination. To ensure effective preparation, your doctor may instruct you to:
- Fast minimum 6 hours prior to the procedure.
- Follow a special diet on the day before the exam.
- Take a laxative to facilitate bowel movements and empty the colon.
- Colonoscopy is typically a day-care procedure, meaning you will not need to be admitted overnight.
- After the procedure, it is important to have someone available to drive you home as driving under the influence of sedation is not recommended.
