Understanding mental well-being is getting difficult & complicated because of the stigma that exists in our society and the lack of a concrete definition of the subject itself. Our responsibility; individually and collectively is to uphold the nuts and bolts of human interaction – to have an incredible support system and to build solid social ties to avoid depression or isolation.
We must be mindful that mental wellbeing range is wide which there are contrasts between mental wellbeing issues and mental illnesses or disorders. Experiencing one or more of the following sentiments or behaviours can be an early warning sign of a problem:
Eating or sleeping too much or too little
Having low or no energy
Feeling numb or like nothing matters
Having unexplained aches and pains
Feeling helpless or hopeless
Smoking, excessive alcohol intake, substance abuse
Feeling abnormally confused, distracted, on edge, angry, distured, stressed, or scared
Conflicts with family and friends
Experiencing severe mood swings that cause problems in relationships
Having persistent thoughts and memories you can’t get out of your head
Hearing voices or believing things that are not true
Thinking of harming yourself or others
Inability to perform daily errands like taking care of your kids or getting to work or school
